On February 28, 2017 at 12:24 p.m., Canvas experienced a service outage and was unavailable to the Northwestern community until 3:25 p.m. This outage affected many Canvas schools including but not limited to: UC Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, and University of Michigan.
The outage was due to part of Amazon Web Services servers suffering a lapse in service which affected many online applications, including Canvas.
Faculty Support Services will always try to keep you informed about the service status of Canvas; however, things are sometimes outside of our control.
